The following is an email from Lisa Cornelius who participated in the Fighting Fair - Level 1 training on June 23&24 in Melbourne.
Hi Scott
I woke up this morning (STILL) thinking about how much I enjoyed the training and what a skilled facilitator you are so decided to send an email because I was quite brief on the feedback sheet.
Here goes:
- I wasn't bored at any point during the training - every training I've participated in previously has had some boring bits;
- you appeared to engage everyone;
- you didn't read out from the manual (can you believe people do that?), use power point or read from it, labour your points or blantantly reiterate points. I think this was a big factor in avoiding boredom;
- you were really funny and showed the ability to laugh at yourself and others without ever seeming judgemental.
In short I think you demonstrated true facilitation skills (with a "solid" dose of personality) - you were not preaching or lecturing and you never pulled people up in roleplays even when they were obviously going off course. In this way you showed respect for the participants and recognition that they are adults, have a range of existing skills and importantly are able to identify and learn from their own mistakes.
I certainly came away feeling much better informed about the process of mediation and also more aware of the areas I need to work on. If I decide mediation is an area I would like to work in I will definately do more of your training courses. I also note you run training in group facilitation and I would recommend that anyone who runs or plans to run groups should undertake that training!
Thanks again Scott.
Kind regards,
Lisa Cornelius
